I have a Compaq (5600 something) Pentium 2 /450/256 ram/13 Gig hard drive.
I have had this computer for a long time and it gave enough trouble in the
first month that Compaq put damned near everything new in the case. I have
put a zip, rec cd in it and it has been working just fine for a long time.
A few months ago the screen started flickering really bad. I figured the
monitor was going bad and tried another one. That worked real good for a
couple of weeks and then did the same thing. I put back the other monitor
and had no more problems for a pretty good while. It started doing the same
thing a couple of weeks ago and I checked all connections, cleaned the
boards and sockets again and it worked just fine. I narrowed it down to
what I thought must have been the video card and replaced it with an ati 32
meg graphic card and that fixed it for a few days. Now I'm having the same
problem. I thought it may have been heat and checked all of the fans and
they seem OK. It is very intermittent and I'm not sure where to look next.
I have good components to go into a new system but can't really afford it
right now. If any of you have any ideas please post to the list or I would
appreciate a private post.
Thanks in advance,
Randall Stone
