Just FYI, the only bad part was the motherboard.  Changed that, using all
the original components and everything worked fine.  Turns out the system
was hanging, but usually when there was a change to video which caused the
screen to be blank.  Windows complained about the hardware change, but
eventually it got over it.  Thanks for the suggestions!
