I have an HP Deskjet 500c purchased in Dec 1992. It's consumed
50-60 black ink cartridges. Still works at a reasonable
level when compared to its performance when new.

I got about 140,000 pages out of an HP IIIp laser. That works out
to roughly 30 toner cartidges. It still works,
but not at a level I can live with in our office.
Your experience may vary.

Maybe we should talk about printer life in "cartridges used"
as opposed to a very "meaningless" time in use figure?
I have an HP LJ 4-L going strong after five toner cartridges.
It is almost six years old. After about three or four years, HP sent me a
coupon worth $50, or $100 for a replacement printer.
