I've been doing 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10 using the Canon S900 and I find it very
good.  Multiple Ink cartridges - so you don't waste ink and throw away
"multi" cartridges just because you run out of ink on one, six different ink
cartridges with two for photo quality work.  I believe this has been
replaced by the Canon S920.  New last year was $399 but I've seen them for
$299 now.

Hello...

Can anyone suggest a good photo printer for 4x6 sizes and up....

do we need to buy the kind with the dye-sub ink?

This is strictly for use in making prints form videotape...
