Hello,

I recently purchased a Maxtor 36 GB Diamond Max HD. Due to the fact that
the Award BIOS has a 32 GB drive limitation I was forced to
use software overlay. After having some problems with the inital
installation I am now running with 2 Hard drives 1 4 Gig Seagate, and the 36
Gig Maxtor (both IDE). I did have to do a reinstall windows 98 to my
Seagate Drive, and was going to run without the 36 Gig until the motherboard
manufactor had gotten back with a possible upgrade to the system. Now after
I had 98 reinstalled I discoverd that Windows had infact detected the drive
and set the drives up like this:

C: Seagate HD 4 Gig

D: DVD-ROM

E: Maxtor 36 GIG

F: HP CDRW Burner

Before I installed 98 fdisk (in pure dos) wasn't showing the drive at all.
There is no software overlay installed, and the BIOS isn't controlling it.
After I isntalled thru the command line window I ran f disk and I showed the
Maxtor drive.

What I want to know is why this is possible. I thought Windows/DOS had to
have some type of report thru the BIOS / or software overide to bea ble to
set the drive up. Plus I thought All hard drive stuff was set up befre CD
drive letters????
