Hello Michele,
Just try an Ontrack driver for your HDD. Look for similar driver at your
HDD manufacturer's web site and your problem will be fixed in no time.
Best wishes,
Oleg

> Thank you to everyone who made suggestions.
> I've now done it, and my hard drive now registers as having 9.52GB capacity.
> I still haven't got any idea what the extra partition was, but I ended up downloading DELPART.EXE after scouring the net. It was very easy to use, and deleted the partition without any trouble.(I'll save it just in case I need it again)
> When I was left with just the one partition, it still only occupied 40+% of the hdd's capacity, so I thought it best to re-partition it, format, and start again from scratch.
> My understanding of partitions is now much better, thanks to everyone, and I feel as though I've learnt so much in a couple of days.
> Thank you all again so much.
