First, I too don't like winME, a lot of hardware don't have ME driver yet
(win98 driver doesn't always work with ME), and a lot of software don't like
ME either. Only time will fix the problem.

I guess you try to format C: within windows, right? windows won't allow you
to do that. You have to boot with win98 CD (it is bootable), or a boot disk
(eg. you should have a boot disk come with win98, that will do the job).
