Perhaps the message is correct.  Have you thoroughly investigated the
availability of XP drivrers for this machine?
I've heard many stories where the downgrade was not possible.

Iam trying to unisntal vista and install XP on a toshiba laptop
satellite
300. The problem I have is that whenever I try to boot with windows XP
CD I
get an error : You system has been shut down to prevent your computer
from
damage. This happens after XP loads the drivers and just before
displaying
the installation option. I have tried to boot with partition managers
like
Acronis but to no avail. Ant help?
