Hello,

OVERVIEW:
I recently installed a new motherboard and internal modem in my
homebuilt PC.

Old system was a SuperMicro P5STE mobo w/Cyrix 166+ cpu.
Old modem was a Diamond Supra 33.6Kbps Faxmodem (external on
com 2)

New system is a TXPro MMX Pentium mother board with and AMD K6-2
300MHz cpu. This mother board can be seen at:
The new modem is and internal Creative Modem Blaster 56K v.90.

PROBLEM:
I want to remove the internal modem and install an external modem on
COM2. I cannot get the New system to detect an external modem. I
have tried to get Windows98 to detect the old Diamond Supra 33.6Kbps
(same serial cable that worked before) but PNP/Add Modem won't
detect it. If I manually install the modem, it says it is installed but the
Modem|Diagnostics still won't detect it.

I also tried a new 3Com USRobotics 56K external modem which it also
fails to detect.

The TR light on the external modem does come on and blinks once or
twice while Windows 98 is searching the port the modem is connected
to. The light then stays on but the Windows 98 still doesn't detect the
modem.

I Have tired replacing the internal serial connector (mobo to rear pannel)
and switching the serial connector between the com1 and com2 mobo
pins. It still won't detect it.

Any help suggestions eagerly awaited and greatly appreciated.

Thanks
