You are right. This MAY reset the BIOS password (depending on the
motherboard make/model), but it is impossible for it to reset the Windows
password. The Windows password is stored in a file on the disk in encrypted
form. There is no way the BIOS could possibly know how to modify that file,
especially on an NTFS filesystem.

Russ is correct about the Windows password. I read somewhere (I think in an
issue of PCWorld) that if you boot into safe mode, there is a default
Administrator accout that you can use to reset a forgotten password. If that account's
password was left blank during the installation of windows, or when
subsequently creating additional accounts, you can reset the password there. If not, it
is extremely difficult given the nature of the NTFS file format that 2000/XP
uses.
