I was assisting a friend with the installation of a new Cannon USB Bubble
Jet Printer.

His system is a PII Slot1 in a SuperMicro Main board With the O/S Win 98 SE
the main board only has two USB ports, running in one is ADSL USB Modem, in
the 2nd main board USB port the New Cannon BJ Printer both work fine while
connected to the main board USB.

He also has a USB F/B Scanner & USB Digital Camera, due to lack of
avaible USB ports.
I fitted a 4 port USB hub & connected to one of the Main board USB ports &
AC Power, It is reconised in the System Device Manager.

But when I plug in the Modem or BJ Printer from the main board port now
required by the 4 port Hub, which ever I plug into the hub will not work.

The USB ADSL Modem Light is out while connected to the Hub, If I swap the
USB printer to the USB hub and restore the modem to the main board with the
hub in the second the USB port.

The ADSL modem light is on and it will work ok sending & receving.
but the printer now connected to the 4 port hub, tells me the USB port is
already in use and the printer cannot print.

I am at a loss as to how to use the second main board port for the 4 port
Hub.

Any advice please, I have also considered installing a PCI to USB Card on
the main board, but I am un sure if this will resolve the problem.
I Look foward to your reply
David
