There is a shareware program by SiSoft called Sandra.  This years version
would be Sandra2001 (if it's out yet) and can usually be found at ZD's web
site.  It doesn't exactly do a stress test on the system, but will warn you
of problems.

Most other programs that do what you are looking for cost lots of money.
You might look for other shareware at ZD's site that will do testing, but
I'm not sure how reliable they would be.  Good luck!
