Have you tried both data and audio CDs in it? If both give problems, it
may be that the drive has gone bad. Windows only indicates that the
software part of the installation is fine, but the drive can still be
defective. You might check with Plextor Customer Service - is it still
in warranty? I have had good luck with getting help from Plextor.

I put a cd in the slot, but it makes a sound similar to
what you hear when you play a 45 at 33rpm (sloooow), only in short
"bursts". I know the disk is good because it plays in the other cd
drive. The yellow indicator on the front of the drive slot flashes
twice, then repeats as long as there's a disk in it. Previously, I've
used it as both a writable and readable drive.

Can someone please help me fix this? Is it possible there's another
disk jammed in there?

According to Device Manager, Review devices by Type, "this device is
working properly", but it sure doesn't seem like it to me. Win98se.
