I think what happened to your video is that you haven't installed the driver for your video card, so it is running on the default windows vga colors. Go to your video card manufacturer's web site and download the latest XP driver for your model. If it is a more recent nvidia or ATI, or one of the many clones of those, it will be easy to doubleclick on the downloaded file and update the driver. If it is an older card you may need to go to the "my computer" icon, right click it and choose properties. Then choose device manager. In device manager choose display adapters then properties. On the driver tab choose update driver and follow the instructions. If you don't know what kind of video card you have it will tell you in device manager. AS for your other issue I have no idea.

>I need help! Last week I upgraded my computer from WIN ME to XP Pro. I of course did not do it properly. ( How timely was Hugh's post on Windows training ) I lost my bookmarks and my address book. That is no big deal . My problem is, now when I boot up it boots to low color resolution (8 bit) I reset it to medium (16) but it goes back to low at next boot! Also I have a U.S. Robotics modem ( Mod. 5699B ) installed
>since Jan. 2003 that has a phone call notification that notifies me of a call when I am online and receive a call. This function has stopped working. I reinstalled the modem software but that did not cure it. I went to the U. S. Robotics web site and downloaded a new driver but that didn't help. When a call comes in, the caller hears the ring tone ( call waiting ok. )but the computer does not sense the call. Any help will be very welcome..
