Cirrus Logic had an old utility that would set the video mode, monitor
type and "possibly" "other things" on your way through DOS while booting...
It was called clmode.exe, and other one(?) existed too.
If I remember correctly, Diamond (or someone) had ssmode.exe
I used the CL one for a monitor that would "forget" (sometimes) what it was
supposed to do (or be) between boots.  (This was the 1994 era...)
You might get a "lead" on it/them at the DELL site...
