CD drives have a tiny laser lens about 2-3mm wide. Sometimes, it doesn't
take more than a clump of dusty fibre to obscure the lens. After checking
all connections and before consigning the CD to the scrap heap, I'd suggest
buying and running a CD lens cleaner. I have a Phillips brand which works
well - it's just a CD disk with a couple of tiny brushes glued onto it. It
also has an audio track to tell you what to do and when to do it.

If you're handy, you can always pull the drive to bits for a closer look -
who knows, there might be some other junk in there, like a paper label or a
cockroach. <grin>

From: "Dewayne Weaver" Subject: [PCBUILD] CD-Rom Problem

Hi,
I have an older Digital Celebris 590 that will no longer read from the
cd-rom. I have tried anotherr drive with the same results.

The system is a P-90 with Win95b and 16MB ram

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dewayne
