Two possibilities come to mind. A dead BIOS chip or the CH (Chinoble)
something virus which causes the same thing.

Subject: [PCBUILD] dead computer

Plug in the computer it fires up for about 2 seconds then dies. If you
try to re-start it won't. Even if you unplug the computer, it won't fire
up again for awhile. It was working fine at last use. It was then
unplugged immediately after being used (and properly shut down) so it is
not a lightening spike. You can hear the hard drive fire up briefly.

Not that this should matter but it is a HP 6545C Pavilion.

Suggestions?

Regards,
Paul Ecclestone
