I am having a problem with my homebuilt(from spare parts) PC. I bought the motherboard and processor new about a year ago from newegg. I just got a replacement processor from AMD. When I turn the computer on, it just beeps at me with two tones, one higher, one lower. It is my understanding that this is the signal that the processor is too hot. It happened before. It was suggested to me to remove the processor and turn it on to see if it still beeps. If so, then there is nothing wrong with the processor and the problem is a faulty sensor on the motherboard. I did that and assumed it was the processor. I just sent it off to AMD and had it replaced under warranty. Surely I haven't ruined the new processor this quick. When I installed the new processor, it beeped the same way when I turned it on. So I reset the CMOS and it started working. The next day when I tried to turn it on, I didn't get any picture. I removed the video card and reinstalled it, then it worked fine. It was on without problem for a few hours. Then when I got up the next day and go to turn it on, the same beeping. Nothing else I have tried has corrected it this time. I am thinking that there is a problem with the motherboard and I hope nothing has happened to damage the new processor. I removed the thermal pad on the bottom of the heatsink(that evaporated off my first processor) and replaced it with Arctic Silver 5 and precisely following the instructions on the arctic silver website. Also, when I put the computer back together with the new processor, I installed 2 case fans(previously there were no extra fans) which should have it even cooler in the case. Could I have messed up installing the arctic silver? I was very careful and it didn't seem overly complicated. The new processor is a Model 8. I am not sure what the old one was. I also have 512MB of crucial PC2100 RAM and the video card is a Diamond Viper V770 32MB. The only thing I can think of to do now is replace the motherboard and hope that does it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
