I hate to say it, I would chunk the monitor. If you can't replace it
yourself, it would probably cost $35 or $40 to have the cord replaced. You
can buy a 15 inch monitor for under $100, a 17 inch for just over $100, and a
19 inch for around $150.

In my opinion, and that's all it is, I wouldn't spend 30 - 40% of the cost of
the item when it is already old and may have other problems as well. Also, it
could be your video card and not your monitor, I have seen the connections on
video cards start to fail from the weight of the monitors cord. If you can,
you might check and see if you still have the problem on another system or
video card.
