My guess is that the VSO Inspector is the culprit.  I've seen this problem
before where one burning software conflicted with another, resulting in the
disappearance of the drive.

You might try uninstalling and reinstalling whatever you regularly use for
burning your DVDs/CDs, though you may have to contact the developer of the
VSO Inspector software and see if they have a manual uninstall process that
they can provide you with, before you can restore things to where they
previously were.
