Personally, I would run scandisk again and leave it running overnight, just
to see if it can be fixed.
I've found that this is where some of people go wrong. They think the
computer has frozen, when alot of the time it's just taking a long time
trying to fix an error.
I usually suggest that people turn the monitor off while it's scanning, and
then they can't see what's happening. (or not happening.)

If that doesn't help, try reloading windows98se directly over the top of
itself. (alot of people might disagree with me there). If you get the option
while loading, run scandisk again to mark out any bad sectors if there are
any. This may take a long time, but it's worth it.

If that fails, it might be time to format and reload from scratch.
