Greetings David & list--

Since the installation of USB printers often requires that the installation routine (including the drivers and any printing system software) be done prior to plugging in the printer itself, it may be necessary to uninstall the printer while it is plugged into its original on-board USB port. After the uninstallation completes, follow the manufacturer's recommendation for installing the printer, plugging it in (when instructed) to the port on the powered USB hub to which you referred in your post. This should reinstall the drivers and re-create the printer port as the operating system "sees" it at the USB hub, instead of the on-board port. (I'm not absolutely certain of the "order of events" with the Canon, but with an HP Photosmart all driver and printing system installation occurred prior to plugging in the printer to the USB port. When the install routine instructed me to plug in the USB cable, the OS immediately recognized the new device, installed the drivers, and created a printing port.)
