How about using "Direct Cable Connection" that is included in
Windows. I think I used it several computers ago that were
running Windows 3.1 and it is still included in as late as W98
(my latest version.) I used it to transfer files from W95 to W98
computers before I got my 2 computer network set up.

As I remember, parallel communication is mch faster than
serial but it takes a "Laplink" type cable. I also remember that
you cannot use a "straight-through cable" but must use a
special cable (or is that what a straight-through cable is?)

I have both types of cables and they are labelled for their
particular function so I don't remember how the actual
wiring configurations are made. I just plug them in and go.
