Susan,

I'm not sure what updates were made to your BIOS with this upgrade but it
could affect the USB port. The mouse freezing when you fool around with
the USB port may be good! When I plug in a USB device on my USB port, the
drivers are installed as the computer recognizes that the device has been
connected. That can cause the screen and mouse to "freeze" for a short
period of time. It should return to normal within about 30 seconds after
the drivers are installed. Have you tried using the scanner with software
other than HP? Especially when installed with the WINME drivers?

I have had problems in the past with some scanner packaged software putting
a program running in the background for auto-scanning (copy machine type
functions) and the program interfered with normal scanning with other software.

Good luck in your search for a solution.

Doug
