I think you are using a bootdisk for booting up.  Now the question here,
was the hard disk formatted as NTFS file system?  To check this, after
booting up using the bootdisk, try to access any drive letter ( c: or d:),
if you could access any of the drives, then the accessed drive is running
under FAT.  NTFS file system drives are not accessible when you boot up
using your own boot disk. I suspect you cannot run setup from the CD since
it can't copy some or all of the installation files from the CD to the hard
drive because your drive is NTFS and is inaccessible from diskette bootup.
Try to use any software which could change the file system from NTFS to FAT
so you could run the installation.  I hope this helps.
