Hi,
here's a link to the Matrox FAQ site which addresses the "how to
install matrox drivers". It also has links for the drivers and the
Matrox Uninstaller which is required to remove version 5.x drivers.

It does sound like your drivers are corrupt and need to be reinstalled.
