Not surprising.  Windows 9x is not adept at accurately identifying the
latest and greatest processors from Intel, AMD, et. al.  In my
experience, it can't tell the difference between a PII and a PIII and
Celeron.  They are all identified as PIIs.  I don't know whether it's a
matter of Windows having a poor identification procedure or the
manufacturers not providing an easy way for the OS to detect the speed
and type of the processor.
