Some of my responses are interspersed...

about this on this website but am concerned about the following:

my software/programmes/games. My secondary drive (6.4 Mb) is a slave drive for additional
storage.

Eeek!

Before going to any drastic extremes, I would recommend installing the primary hard
disk in the new system, then booting to Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode, right click
My Computer, Click Properties, Click on the Device Manager tab, then, one-by-one
(leaving the mouse for last) remove all devices. Shut down the computer as you normally
would, then power it up and allow WinME to 'rediscover' all the devices. (I am assuming
you will have your WinME cd and any device driver disks at hand in case they are
necessary.) This procedure has saved me from a complete re-install on a number of
occasions.

Kevin Brown and Tom Turak's responses are also viable options.
