  In the bad old days, we used NASI and NACS (technologies which I
would hope would be obsolete by now, but I wouldn't bet on it) to allow
workstations to connect to a pool of modems on a server.  But once a
workstation opened a modem, it wasn't available to others -- no
simultaneous use.

  It's possible to get the effect you seek by deploying an NT Server
box with RAS and Proxy Server 2.0, to act as a shared IPX -> Internet
gateway which might happen to use modems on the external connection.
It's reasonable to assume that Novell offers their own version of this
capability.
