Dunno about xcopy but xcopy32, a later version, copies everything, depending
on what switches you use. I'm no guru on the subject, but when I copy an
entire CD to a HDD, say a W98 CD to a directory on the HDD from where I'll
do the actual install of W98, my command is (from A):

xcopy32 d:\*.* c:\winstart /s/e

...where d is the CD drive and C:\Winstart is the folder I've created to
copy the CD's contents to.

I've been doing it for so long now that I've forgotten what /s and /e do
:--)). And I don't bother to clutter up my already reduced mental capacity
with stuff I can look up. But the procedure works - it copies the lot.

(For the benefit of those who might want to use this procedure to set up
Windows 98 from the hard drive, you really only need to copy the contents of
the W98 folder from the Win98 CD to your setup folder. There are a few
other un-needed files in the Win98 folder, but to save fiddling about in DOS
more than is necessary, I copy the whole of the W98 folder. Then, once
Windows is up and running, I go into the C:\Winstart\W98 folder and delete
the 'Tour' folder. This gets rid of the bulk of the unnecessary stuff
without undue timewasting.

<xxcopy is a very powerful copying program that
copies system and hidden files, keeping directory structures intact.>

As I remember, DOS's xcopy doesn't copy hidden files. Am I correct?"
