F10 was a big help!  I confirmed that CD-ROM boot is enabled, turned on
"Legacy" support, moved the CD-ROM drive to the head of the Legacy boot
order (It was already first on the default (UEFI) boot order.) -- and my
desktop shortcut resumed working to enable WiFi!  Still no boot from the
CD-rOM, but at least the machine gets WiFi now...
