Update 2:

Last one on this topic.  The woman got the PC home & it wouldn't display again!

Took only a little while for me to realize I'd been testing on a 14" CRT & hers was 19"

When I attached my own 19"- no screen.

Diagnosis: her PS can't run the monitor & the card.

Back to onboard until she decides she wants to change PS's.
