I had this problem over at a client who had 2 hard drives on his computer.
The powersupply blew and after replacing it, neither hard drives could be
read. Even worse so, one of the hard drives managed to blow out the power
supply, while the other one was inaccessible from any computer. took the
hard drive over to an associate who used a couple of tools to check whether
there was any power to it. His suggestion, to have the hard drive taken to
a clean room lab if I needed to retrieve the data. this problem occurs when
there is a problem with the circuits on the hard drive making it totally
unusable.

Subject: [PCBUILD] HD causes power outage

I have an unusual situation. I have a system that was working fine on
Sunday. Monday morning the system was off (powered itself off I guess). It
would not come back on. Tested the outlet and was getting a good voltage.
Swapped power supplies - still no response (no lights, no fans). Whenever
power is supplied to the hard drive, the system won't respond. Tried the
same hard drive in another system, same results. Took the drive out of the
cage (to eliminate potiental grounding problems) - same result.

My questions - Has anyone else ran into this problem? Any way to revive the
HD long enough to retrieve any data? Should I suspect any problems
elsewhere, after replacing the power supply and HD?
