A KVM switch is likely what your friend is looking for:

Newegg has a few available (and probably your local electronics/computer
parts store)

Subject: [PCBUILD] Monitor switching

I have a friend whose computing area space is extremely limited. He uses
one
pc for his graphic designing, movie production and music mastering. He is
very happy with his system and doesn't want to risk corruption from the
internet ( I feel the same about my "work" machine) so he uses a second pc
for the
internet. However, he only has space for one monitor and has to shut down
one
pc, connect monitor to pc#2 then boot that one up.
Is there such a thing as a "switch box" of some kind to switch between pcs

without the constant plugging and un-plugging which can't be good for the
contacts or the life of the cable?
