CD-ROM DMA enable caused serial mouse to stop functioning

This problem has been for quite soem time. I ticked the DMA option on the
CD-ROM device and restart.
Place a computer CD and run the software which require a mouse... after 5
secs.. the mouse just stopped.
I have to reboot and the mouse works again.
Any idea what's been wrong?
