You most likely will be able to use a CD burner on your system, but you will
most probably not be able to use it at it's full speed capacity and will
have to close down all programs running in the background before burning to
free up a lot of the resources. I would recommend getting a burner that has
Burn-Proof technology, such as Plextor. Another thing is that although you
are correct that burning at lower speeds lessens the risk of buffer underrun
errors, it has no effect on the quality of the recording, and a new system
with a good motherboard, cpu, and a substantial amount of Ram would have no
problem using the burner at its full sped capacity. I have a P-III 600 with
256Mb Ram and I use a Sony CD-RW CRX140E burner 8x-4x-32x and can burn at
full speeds with no problem.

Hi,
I would like your opinions on my system's capabilities. I have a P1 166mhz,
8.4gb hdd, 40mb edo ram. Will I be able to operate a cd burner with this
system? I know it will not be real fast but, from fast systems i've seen you
have to burn at slower speeds anyway to avoid errors and for better quality
burns. What do you think.

Thank You,
Gregg Pfaff
