Hello, I have had some problems with my win98SE machine accessing the registry.
In troubleshooting I found out several possiblities for this issue, and one of
them I
am investigating is a possible memory problem.
I have downloaded a program called DocMemory, that is for memory testing.
It installls onto floppy and is run right after post.
I get an error in the program diagnostic test that is called "March B".
I have 2 sticks of memory in the machine:
128meg SyncmaxPC100
128meg micronPC100
I have tried these things. I installed just one of the sticks, I get NO error.
Anytime more than one stick is installed I get March B error in the program. It
does not matter
which slot it is in.
I have a 3rd stick of 128megPC100 called Advanced Modules. I have installed it
in place
of the micron and still get March B error when there is more than one stick in
the machine.
So therefore, I have concluded that this may be an issue of the timing of the
different
sticks being varied and incompatible when using more than one stick.
OH, BTW my Bios settings for the SDRAM timing is set to medium, and the
CASlatency
is set to 2 for all the banks.
I am wondering if I should change the Bios settings for the memory, to see if
the March B errors
will subside.
OH, my machine runs good and I really have no problem or blue screen or
anything in win98se,
just the "accessing registry problem". I have been to CompUSA and had all
sticks checked on
their memory tester, and they say that they are all Good sticks.
Just wondering if anyone had any input or advice on this, oh yes, I know it
would probably be the
best thing to have matched memory sticks, but tight budget only allows the
"take what you can
get cheap" approach.
sincerely,
Susan Stubbs
