Have you partitioned and formatted your new drive?  Perhaps using the Disk Management console (I can't remember the name or extension to execute this from the "Run" dialog)?

I can't get my computer to recognize my new Hard Drive in My Computer. 
I have a Compaq Presario running Win 7. 
It does not show up in My Computer, but it is listed under Disk drives in Device Manager. 
Any suggestions appreciated. I need to backup my present HD.
