Subject: Installing a Promise ATA 100 controller card
hello: I installed a WD 10 gig HD into my system, which is an ASUS MB/HX
chipset, 200cpu, bios 05/1997. I didn't want to use the EZ install overlay
software, but I did at the time. Now I would like to install a new
controller card and remove the EZ software. Questions:
(1) Can someone give me some tips on installing and using this card. I have
never used one.
(2) Will I be able to boot from the drive installed on the card? Is it
recognized by my MB bios?
(3) If I uninstall the EZ software will my data still be able to be read or
will I loose whatever is installed on the drive. I was hoping not to
reformat.
(4) When I origianlly installed the EZ software and the 10 gig drive, it was
a drive "D" and I didn't think the EZ would install on my "C" drive, but it
did. Why would that be? I didn't need it for that drive, just for the new
drive. If I unistall it on that drive will that data be lost?
(5) Is this the preferred method of installing a larger HD or should I keep
the EZ software. The reason I want to get rid of it is because I want to
Ghost the HD and they say I'll have problems if using overlay (EZ) software.
Thank you for any input on these matters. William Patton
