Hello folks. I was wondering if anyone had information on whether the
motherboard that comes with a Gateway GP6-450 system might support a PIII
FCPGA (pre-Taulatin) in a slotket adaptor. The motherboard is a BX
motherboard. The Gateway site states this motherboard uses the MP440BX
chipset. I suspect this is an Intel made board for Gateway, perhaps a
version of something called a "Tabor" motherboard, though Gateway simply
identifies this particular board as "Intel Pentium II Motherboard with
Audio". They all seem to use the same Gateway BIOS. The latest version of
this BIOS goes up to 4M4PB0X1.15A.0033.P21. Unfortunately, Gateway gives
little information about what this BIOS upgrade adds in the way of support.

I've had success getting a PIII FCPGA to run on a BH6 motherboard, even
though my original version of this motherboard doesn't officially support
the PIII, so I tend to think that this Gateway BX motherboard might support
a PIII, too. But, I figure it's all trial and error, and I'd like to learn
from the errors of others, before I proceed. ;-)

I know that I could use a Powerleap adaptor/CPU combo, which would even add
support for a Taulatin PIII, but they tend to be a bit pricey.

Thanks,

John
