A friend of mine has an odd problem with his computer.
Sometimes it will receive several faxes in a row with no
problems and then just stops receiving them.  At other
times it will receive faxes after the answering machine
picks up and plays the message.  I'm wonder if it could
be related to a power savings mode?

He has a 486/100 system running Windows 95, using
WinFax Pro to receive faxes.  Sorry, but I don't know any
more about the system specs other than that.
