Hi,

Regarding the Compaq 5000us, I checked out a couple of forums regarding disabling the onboard video... it appears that it disables itself automatically when a new device is detected. Theoretically, inserting a pci video card should disable the onboard device. Obviously you would need to install the drivers for your new card upon booting into windows. If the system crashes with the new card, perhaps the card is faulty, or perhaps it's conflicting with another device.
I'm not really up on conflicting devices, but you could try taking out all unnecessary pci cards, and just booting with the video card installed, then put the cards back in one by one. This way you may be able to pinpoint any conflicts as they arise.

Regards
