Since you mention 8mg chips, I assume these are simms and not dimms.

I would consider that the new chips are either non-parity or parity
simms, a form of ram your PC does not support.  You might check the
Bios to see if you have a setting to change this option...

Another issue might be to check the speed you have the Bios set at for
Ram and set it to auto if at all possible.

If these two are not issues, you might want to install the simms two at
a time to determine if one or more of them are bad.
