Hugh,
I'm not the expert that these other guys are but in my current
                                                         pc building venture,
I have run into a conflict that I thought I might warn you of.
I also am looking to build a video editing system and started by buying the
top dog (at the time) in video cards which was the ATI all-in-wonder 9800 pro.
After also buying the top speed (also at the time) processor, an Intell P-4
3.2 GHz, I find that apparently non of the boards with a chipset to support
this particular P-4 chip (as well as P-4s a few steps down in speed) will support
an AGP 2x 3.3v board which is what my 9800 pro is. They only support an 8x or
4x 1.5v AGP card. Thankfully, ATI also offers a slightly cheaper board with
similar capabilities (all-in-wonder 9600 xt) that operates at the acceptable
voltage which I plan to try.
Since I haven't completed my system yet, I can't indorse the board, but
thought you should know about the 2x, 4x, 8x AGP issue to save your losing money
on an un-usable piece of equipment as I have. Though I may be able to use it in
a future AMD project as they seem to possibly have different chipsets that
will work.

Good Luck!
