Greetings--

By way of amplifying (pun perhaps intended) Chris Ryan's response to the memory speed recognition issue, memory voltage is a key parameter. I currently have a very stable Asus P5N-T Deluxe motherboard, with SLI enabled. It began life as a very unstable build, until I read in a post to Newegg that the OCZ ram he was using needed a memory bus supplying 2.20 volts in order to function properly. Fortunately, my motherboard allows this sort of tweaking. Once I adjusted the memory voltage to the higher level (it defaulted to 1.7 volts), the 1066 speed was recognized and the system became instantly more stable. (I have had only a few crashes from causes other than RAM speed; mostly network problems.) I should add, though, that I, too, had initially installed the Kingston HyperX RAM, but could not get it to "play nice" with the Asus board. The SLI-ready (and so labeled) OCZ ram clearly had the Extended Performance Profiles (an Nvidia designation) that work well with this Nvidia 780i chipset-equipped board.

Subject: Issues with New Build (Memory issue)

Hello,

I have an issue with my new build.

Hardware specs: Gigabyte EP45-DS3L (BIOs ver. F9)
RAM: Kingston Hyper-X 2GB PC2-8500/DDR2/1066MHz=20
CPU: Wolfdale 3.16 GHz, 1333MHz FSB

My motherboard will not recognize my RAM as 1066. It sees it as 800. I up=
graded to the latest BIOS, but still will not recognize it to 1066.=20

Any ideas on getting it to see the whole 1066?  Is there a big difference=
between 800 and 1066?  Could I damage my hardware by tweaking the BIOS s=
ettings?

Thanks.

According to Gigabyte, the specs for memory on your board are 4x1.8v DDR2
DIMM sockets

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID
=2844

and the specs on your memory suggest voltages from 1.85v to 2.25v

http://www.kingston.com/HyperX/products/khx_ddr2.asp

I suspect the the memory is running at DDR2 800Mhz due to the lower voltage
supplied. Although the Gigabyte site states the board supports DDR2
1333+/1066/800/667 MHz memory modules, the link that points to the memory
support list does not have your particular modules. There are probably
options in the BIOS to work around this, but as Mark states you probably
will not notice the difference (unless you are a "benchmark addict")
