  The password setting in the BIOS is completely separate from Windows.

  Some versions of Windows will stop asking for a password if you don't give
them one....

  What you're describing, though, is not a "login" screen, but a "change
password" screen.  That sounds like your account probably has "Must change
password at next login" checked.  (This is often checked automatically when
an account is first created).

  I know passwords seem like ahassle, but I've spent a lot of the last ten
days tracking down machines invested with an "sdbot" worm variant; they were
vulnerable because their passwords were easily guessed.
