This may be easy or just weird, but I just finished recovering data from a hard drive from a downed PC with windows 98se. This drive unit was a replacement for an earlier unit that went down. After hooking it up on the primary channel as a slave to my C drive, this HD was partitioned and labeled previously as drive letters G & F, and the file transfers were flawlessly executed. After all files were transfered, I decided to try to recover the files from the 1st HD that went down, but found that my system had labeled the location of the 2nd HD attempt as "Location 1 (1), and does not recognize it (rather list it with the other accessable drives) when accessing via My Computer as with the other drive. My PC is running XP Pro, with an Intel 865 PERL MoBo, 3.0 gig P4 processor, with the existing HD labeled C:Local Disk (Maxtor 120gig), D:Sony DVD-ROM, E:Toshiba/Samsung DVD-R/RW . I went to Admin tools via the control panel, to device manager, and to disk drives, where it was listed below my Maxtor HD as "WDC WD102AA" and in the properties listed the device as working properly. Could the problem be that the old drive was also labeled as a C: drive, and there is a conflict of some sort? I just want to retrieve any files and pictures of worth, and then wipe the drive clean for future use (if it's salvageable) in another case. The HD that went smoothly was also a Western digital, but it was a WD800, 80gig unit, both enh IDE devices, and utilized the same connections (after proper shutdown and restart procedures were performed). Any help will be greatly apprieciated.

Thanks again, Bob Kolenberg
