I'm new to the list so forgive me if this has been covered, but I really
need help. I'm building a new machine (PII-300, Asus P2L97mb, 7.1 Maxtor
hd. etc.)

Got basic hardware installed, and booted from floppy. Used fdisk to create
primary partition, and format to install FAT32 file system.

Successfully installed WIN95/OSR2.

Installed Partition Magic v.3.04 to re-partition to four 2 gig partitions.

When ran, it says I have a 6679.1 FAT32X partition.

I tried loading Partition Magic from C:\, from a floppy in A:/, from the
CD-ROM in DOS-Mode. It would not allow me to do anything with the drive or
partition.

I then went to Partition Magic Tech Support, and got the following reply,
"Jerry-
Partition magic is not capable of working with fat 32 X yet that is why
everything is greyed out. We can only convert it if the cylinders are less
than 1024. If they aren't less than that then all you can do is back up
delete and restore and then recreate it as a fat 32 regular.
Thank You,
Dallas"

My problem is that I have no idea what FAT32X is, how I got it, how do I
get rid of it, can't seem to find anything in FAQ's about it.

All I did was the standard procedure, I've followed a half dozen times in
the past.

I can reboot and reformat, if I have to (though I'd rather not,) but what
do I do different to avoid the same problem?

TIA, because I really need help.
