Hello, I am helping a friend with his Compaq 9546.  I installed a new
5.2gig HD with no problem.  It is the master on IDE 1 with no slave drive.
I was able to install windows95 with no problems.  When i came to setup the
soundcard is where the probelms came about.  The card is a ESS1688 sound
card and modem combo thing.  The sound worked fine with the old HD.  I have
tried installing many different drivers all ment for this sound card.  I
even rehooked up the old HD and booted, sound worked fine. So I took the
drivers from that drive and tried installing on the new 5.2gig.  Still no
sound.  When i remove the sound card from device manager I get two unknown
devies on reboot.  I have tried assigning the drivers to those unknown
devices with no luck.  The modem is set up and working, now all i need is
the sound.  Any ideas would be great.  Once I get this all working the guy
I am doing it for is gonna give me his old 1gig HD.  thanks in advance
