I don't remember the details, but I've done it, and gotten a box
which also demands a username!  I don't want to try it again,
because once I've allowed my my Win98 box even to detect my
second NIC, all hell breaks loose with my Internet connection on
that box.  Even the way you describe things, though, can't you just
create a user on your Win98 box with the same name and
password as the user you want to be on the remote machine?
